The Giant Named Lust

God's Kindness Quest Series

There dwells a giant in the land, named Lust

Who travels far and wide, emitting unhealthy dust

Dust of guilt and shame

Dust of self-condemnation, remorse, and blame

Many encounter the spirit of lust as a child
Leaving them devastated and defiled

As an adult, lured into an affair
Long-term consequences accompany that snare

Hearts harden exponentially with each lustful action

Desensitized, using others for self-satisfaction

Love equals lust, the distorted mindset
Lustful eyes lead to regret

Lust escalates until porn they treasure

Reducing people to objects for their sordid pleasure

The giant of lust becomes their idol

Fantasy is the reins, and seduction is the bridle

Regret and shame in the mirror they see

A sea of lust consumes who they could be

Hopelessly defiled and impure now

Need cleansing, but unsure how

The Bible instructs to flee from immorality

Before you become Lust’s fatality

Kill the giant of lust with a stone and sling

Call on the name of Jesus and freedom he will bring

The sling, repenting for the sin of lust

Asking for forgiveness and cleansing from Lust’s dust

The stone, consecrating your body to Jesus Christ

Committing yourself to godliness, a Holy Sacrifice

Some believe the giant of lust is too intimidating and tall

God’s empowerment is the key to seeing Lust fall

Jesus purifies and redeems, his love overpowers lust

Following God’s path keeps us far from Lust’s dust

Prayer

James 5:16 (NLT),  "... The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results."

Lord, I give you ways people have taken advantage of me, as they succumbed to and were driven by lust. I give you the defilement, shame, guilt, blame, anger, torment, betrayal, fear, and devastation, which has echoed throughout my life. Forgive me for silently stuffing the pain and shame all this time. I give it to you now and choose to forgive them.

I ask you to forgive me for ways I’ve defiled others by treating them as objects for my selfish pleasure. I’ve allowed socially acceptable standards to distort my thinking about sex. I’ve been deceived into believing if I gave my body to another person, outside the covenant of godly marriage, it would make them love me. Instead, it’s caused heartache and loneliness. I give you the spider-web entrapment of lust. I ask you to speak truth to me, uprooting all lies about lust versus love.

Forgive me for spending provision on items and activities related to lust. I ask you to cancel the negative sowing and reaping set into motion by my actions. Cleanse my finances. All provision comes from you. Help me steward it in a godly manner.

In the name of Jesus Christ, I cut every ungodly sexual tie, whether physical or fantasy. Lord, I ask you to unbind me from those ungodly ties. Cleanse my mind and all five senses. Recalibrate my thinking and habits to align with purity, as you define it. Father God, I ask you to speak to me now. I need your comfort, your truth, your empowerment, and your loving, holy embrace. Amen.

Scripture

2 Timothy 3:16 (NLT), "All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true ..."

1 Corinthians 6:12-20 (NLT)

"You say, 'I am allowed to do anything'—but not everything is good for you. And even though 'I am allowed to do anything,' I must not become a slave to anything. You say, 'Food was made for the stomach, and the stomach for food.' (This is true, though someday God will do away with both of them.) But you can’t say that our bodies were made for sexual immorality. They were made for the Lord, and the Lord cares about our bodies. And God will raise us from the dead by his power, just as he raised our Lord from the dead. Don’t you realize that your bodies are actually parts of Christ? Should a man take his body, which is part of Christ, and join it to a prostitute? Never! And don’t you realize that if a man joins himself to a prostitute, he becomes one body with her? For the Scriptures say, 'The two are united into one.' But the person who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with him. Run from sexual sin! No other sin so clearly affects the body as this one does. For sexual immorality is a sin against your own body. Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body."
