My Trust Has Rust

God's Kindness Quest Series

Trust is a hard path for many to travel

Too much broken trust to unravel

Supposed friends, the anguish of betrayal

Numerous relationships spiraled down the wrong trail

Many daggers in the back; can’t allow people near

Overwhelmed with disappointment, sorrow, and fear

Buried in an endless avalanche of anger and pain

When will it stop; this is insane

Festering wounds cause trust to erode

The ability to trust soon to implode

Trusting anyone is increasingly difficult to do

What about God, is he like them too

God isn't comparable to the people who broke trust

Nor to those who lure with lust

How does God treat us differently than people

He loves unconditionally, even the seemingly unlovable

Call upon Father God, the omnipotent physician

He restores wholeness to that which is broken

How do you repair broken trust, you inquire

Surrender past hurts to God’s refining fire

God’s grace gives courage for trust to grow

Grace for your healing pace, fast or slow

Let the Divine potter’s wheel grind that rust to dust

Each turn of his wheel results in less rusty trust

If you’ll surrender rusty trust to his potter’s wheel

You’ll see God’s faithfulness and learn to trust him, with zeal

Prayer

James 5:16 (NLT),  "... The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results."

Lord, the festering wounds from betrayal and broken trust have left me cynical, angry, and apprehensive to trust. I’m buried under an avalanche of disappointment, sorrow, anger, fear, bitterness, worry, stress, and disheartenment. I give it all to you and choose to forgive those who have contributed to broken trust.

Lord, forgive me for ways I have been frustrated or angry with you. Forgive me for any ways I have blamed you, compared or judged you to be like others. I have allowed my trust in you to erode. I’ve hidden behind a fake smile and Christian catchphrases, giving the illusion of having strong faith in you, yet secretly struggling to trust you. Forgive me.

Only you, the omnipotent physician, can restore trust and bring wholeness to my heart. I come to you like an injured little child, relying on their parent's help. I surrender to your potter's wheel, asking you to grind away the accumulated rusty trust. Cleanse my heart of all ill effects of betrayal. Polish me to a high luster reflection of you, in all my thoughts, attitudes, and actions.

Grant me courage to open my heart, fully receiving and giving love. I trust you to guide and teach me to love myself and others in the same manner you love. Amen.
