Flurry of Worry

God's Kindness Quest Series

My child, my child, you worry so

Tossing nightly to and fro

Worry robs much needed sleep

Thoughts racing, the fears run deep

Consumed with each concern

Confused by every twist and turn

Like a crow pecking at your mind

Relief from worry you cannot find

Tormenting memories from the past

Rapid fire, they come so fast

Concerned your needs, I will not meet

Rather than sitting at my feet

Forgetting to ask me what to do

Unaware of the blessings awaiting you

Worry, worry over what might be

Through my eyes, you fail to see

Focused on the problems, you become blind

To the alternatives I have in mind

Worry leaves me out of the equation

Oblivious to my solutions for each occasion

Come, my child

Meek and mild

Let me teach you for a while

Place those worries in a pile

Now cast them into the sea

Leave your cares up to me

Focus your gaze above

Replace worry with my love

Learn to confide in me, your Heavenly Father

You, my precious one, are never a bother

I am faithful, you will see

Worry is useless; choose faith in me

At last, no more flurry

I choose to trust God instead of worry

Prayer

James 5:16 (NLT), "... The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results."

Lord, where I allow worry to take root in my mind, heart and speech, forgive me. It’s like that last piece of chocolate cake. It isn’t good for me and yet, once again, I pick up the fork to feed on worry. I repent of feasting on the buffet table of fear and worry, for not quickly casting it into the sea. Forgive me for not releasing each concern into your care and trusting you. Forgive me for how my thoughts and words focus on worry. I repent of cooperating with the enemy’s distractions.

I choose you, the true Comforter, and repent of using counterfeit comforts, such as drugs, alcohol, sex, eating, shopping, and endless activity.

In the name of Jesus Christ, I break every ungodly tie to fear and worry. Lord, I ask you to unbind me from ungodly habit patterns and thoughts, which have become familiar reactions to stress. Remove the blinders so I can see from your perspective. Cleanse me of fear and worry. Cancel all negative sowing and reaping, which was set into motion because of fear and worry.

Pour a fresh foundation of new godly habits and thoughts. I seek your wisdom and instruction. Holy Spirit, teach me through Scripture and godly counsel.

Lord, strengthen my faith and trust in you. Help me avoid thoughts which distort your truths. Each time worry sends an invitation, remind me of your greater truth. In my weak moments, bring remembrance of your faithfulness. Lord, thank you for establishing a solid foundation of unwavering trust in you. Amen.

Scripture

2 Timothy 3:16 (NLT), "All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true ..."

Luke 12:22-32 (NLT)

“Then, turning to his disciples, Jesus said, ‘That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food to eat or enough clothes to wear. For life is more than food, and your body more than clothing. Look at the ravens. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for God feeds them. And you are far more valuable to him than any birds! Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? And if worry can’t accomplish a little thing like that, what’s the use of worrying over bigger things? Look at the lilies and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. And if God cares so wonderfully for flowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith? And don’t be concerned about what to eat and what to drink. Don’t worry about such things. These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers all over the world, but your Father already knows your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and he will give you everything you need. So don’t be afraid, little flock. For it gives your Father great happiness to give you the Kingdom.’”
