What do I believe

If I believe a lie, it’s truth to me

The path toward the lie I will see

Misguided feet venture in the wrong direction

Oblivious to God's course correction

Parents instill beliefs, passed down the family tree

Their truths may contradict God's plan for me

Society’s traditions and values vacillate through history

Their truths are debated and sculpted precariously

​

Social media influences through the chameleon of likeability 

Their truths fluctuate unpredictably

​

Businesses, governments, and leaders wield their authority

Their truths establish policies based on their defined morality

​

Whose truths do I believe at any given moment

To which belief am I a proponent

 

Living by a smorgasbord of truths breeds unrest

Joy and peace are elusive, pursing that quest

​

Enmeshed in a web of compounded lies, I've been deceived 

God's truth uproots beliefs which are ill-conceived

​

Lord, I give you ungodly indoctrination  

Offering all that I am for your cleansing and purification

​

Holy Spirit, expose and purge all lies

Remove the veil so I can see through your eyes

​

Lord, your truths, I hunger to know

Human truths are illusions and hollow

​

As God’s seeds of truth are planted

They sprout revelation to what was slanted

​

Believe biblical truths and surrender to your Lord and Savior

Receive and embrace the truth, which does not falter, nor waver

Prayer

James 5:16 (NLT), "... The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.​"

Lord, thank you for helping me identify the ungodly beliefs lodged in my heart and mind. There have been more lies drilled into me than I can unravel alone. Misguided belief systems poured the foundation for my actions and became habits. I have been on autopilot, living out those beliefs without thinking about how and where they originated. I forgive those who influenced my lie-based thinking. I take full responsibility for my thoughts and actions, asking you to forgive and cleanse me.

 

I’m ready to examine why I do what I do. Help me get to the root of the beliefs, which are driving my negative thoughts and sinful actions. Show me how to uproot anything askew from your truth. Help me absorb your biblical truths and teach me how to apply them in daily life. Download your definitions of how to be a godly spouse, parent, friend, neighbor, employee, and citizen.

 

Lord, thank you for the people who instilled godly principles. Help me be a godly influence, using your truths as a firm foundation. Light my path and guide me each step of the way. Amen.
