Eclipse of the Soul

God's Kindness Quest Series

There is quite a commotion

Over the planets in motion

Solar eclipse glasses, I cannot find

They advise not to look up, you could go blind

Gradually there is diminishing light

As day turns to night

Can’t distinguish anything past my face

Not liking this darkened place

My mind begins to wander

An analogy, I ponder

What is obstructing my view of God, the Son

Perhaps I believe sin is more fun

Fun! Fun! Fun! Blinded to my sin

Then comes guilt, shame, regret, and chagrin

Ungodly comfort is fleeting, like the solar eclipse

Sensing it's time to change detrimental habits

Then I remember, if I repent and come clean

The Son will shine brighter than I’ve ever seen

God’s perfect love eclipses all sin and fear

If I invite him in, he will come near

No need to wait for his return

Receiving his grace now, giving him every concern

The eclipse is over; darkness has passed

The Son shines in me; freedom at last

A loving God has made me whole

The Son loved me through the eclipse of my soul

Prayer

James 5:16 (NLT),  "... The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results."

Lord, thank you for showing me the things which bring darkness into my life. Forgive me for justifying or embracing sin. I give you the filters which blinded me to cultural sin. Forgive us all for watering down your truth and diminishing the value of godly living, judging it as boring. Forgive me for ways my actions have impacted others negatively. I give you the guilt, shame, and regret. Thank you for freeing me from ungodly ways of thinking, speaking, and acting.

Lord, forgive me and my generational line for sowing seeds of sin. I forgive those in my generational line, which defiled me and our family. Forgive me for ways I’ve passed that on to future generations. Today, in the name of Jesus Christ, I break those ungodly ties. I ask you to cancel negative sowing and reaping set in motion due to generational sin. Cleanse my generational line. Shine your light and truth upon us. Apply your mercy and grace as we shift to a godly generational legacy. Blanket me and my generational line with your holiness.

Instill in me an unquenchable thirst for godly adventures. I come expectant, excited, and joyful to spend our days together. Amen.
